How to repair the LED TV black screen problem using SM4186 IC
Table of Contents
In LED TV’s black screen problem occurs when the panel does not have CKV, AVDD, VGH, VGL, and VCOM voltages. In this case, while repairing, it is generally assumed that DC to DC converter circuit is in safety mode. This assumption can be proved true if there is a short circuit in COF or Panel driver circuit.
To improve the Graphics quality of LED TV, two sets of LEDs having multiple gate driver (COF) circuits are placed between the panels. The DC-to-DC converter circuit goes into safety mode in the presence of short circuit in the driver or output circuits.
Here the voltage supply to the short-circuited driver circuit is stopped by disconnecting certain CKV connections of the panel.
When the DC to DC converter circuit becomes active, one part of the panel is fully activated. Now light graphics will be visible on the screen so that the problem of the black screen can be solved by finding the CKV connections from the figure and data of SM4186 IC.

How to identify if IC is faulty or not?
Using analog multimeter dc scale x10 or x1. Probe – to GND & probe + to ckv line test point, you can identify if IC is faulty or not. Check if dc scales at the multimeter and Power on the tv with the remote, if any movement of the needle of the multimeter to the right then it is immediately off/goes down to the left, which means ic is in safety mode. But if nothing happens, ic is faulty.
